 Planet was a record label started here in Doncaster by David Moffitt in 1978.

It was a short lived lable producing one "rock" album by 'Pagan Bo' a "Folk" album by Charlie Webster and a "Punk" album.

Legend tells that 1000 copies were pressed, yet 200 copies were sold. Eventually in 1990 the rest of the albums were taken to the local dump!

Doncaster a fine heritage for rock music from John McLaughlin (Alexis Korner, Graham Bond, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc) to Lady June (Gong, Brian Eno, Vivian Stanshall, etc) But it is Punk that Doncaster is well known for. The Sex Pistols played at the Outlook club in september 1976 and as 'Tax Exiles' played an infamous show on 24.08.77 on the SPOTS tour. A good year for Punk in Doncaster as The Ramones, Adverts, Damned, Talking Heads, Sham 69 and a host of other well known names. There was even a local fanzine called 'The Lookout'.

Local band Vice Squad (NOT the Beki Bondage band) would headline the venue in March 78, also in 78 The Diks formed and had a small degree of success including a support slot for The Adverts and another band on this album The Negatives.

Supercharged Southern Alberta quartet Fist City burst from basement studios onto the stage in 2009. The twin sibling duo of Kier and Brittany Griffiths — musical collaborators from the womb to the tomb — found ideal foils in frenetic guitarist/songwriter Evan Van Reekum and powerhouse drummer Ryan Grieve. A solid string of releases from labels such as L.A.’s Dead Beat, Victoria’s La Ti Da, and Transgressive have been coupled with tours at home and abroad, glowing reviews, recording with Don Pyle, a Nardwuar interview, and other thrills.

2014 marked a transitional year, including personal changes among the band members, the reissue of their debut LP It’s 1983,Grow Up! from Transgressive Records (originally issued by L.A.’s Black Tent Press in 2012) and the recording of Fist City’s sophomore salvo Everything Is A Mess. The new album finds them primed to take the future by storm and was recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago.


If you take out the intro and interludes, all of which are just very short instrumentals you are left with 11 songs.
These songs are simle, short, almost post grunge pop rock numbers, delivered mainly in the style of say the Pixies.

The sixties influenced (Mainly) instrumentals songs like 'Surfs Up' and 'Rats' are reminiscent of Greg Sage, and have a slightly punky vocal.

Honestly can't think of much to say here, it's a listenable album, nothing to get too excited about.

 Having started out in 2009 in Brighton, Sauna Youth ended up moving to London and changing line up to its current constellation in 2011. Attracted to the possibilities apparent within a DIY philosophy, the band self-recorded and self-released their own music until the release of their first LP, Dreamlands on Faux Discx/Gringo Records in 2012, creating a number of seven inches, splits and cassettes.

The band have naturally developed its sound in the three years since Dreamlands and is now in its ultimate form. All four members are also the band Monotony, which they formed while writing Distractions in 2014. Later in the year, they did two sessions over two days as both bands for Marc Riley on BBC 6 Music, and both Sauna Youth and Monotony were invited to play DRILL Festival by Wire. As well as playing in Monotony, members of Sauna Youth are also in the bands Tense Men, Primitive Parts, Feature and Cold Pumas

After an intresting seventeen seconds first track of well a feedback loop we blast straight into 'Transmitters' which is a good old fashioned new wave pop punk tune circa 1978, not art or experimental, just straight forward and really rather good.

Now thing is next bunch of tracks also fit that bill, just good old fashioned new wave, all sound like the Buzzcocks meets Wire, wheres this art stuff gone?

Up next is 'Paul' which is 52 seconds of talking over a bassline, could this lead into something weirder?
No is the answer back to 1978 again, as is everything else except 'Taking A Walk' which is more talking.

So somewhat dissapointed and at the same time a nice surprise, thought i may be getting some Throbbing Gristle meets Sonic Youth, got some well executed harmless punk tunes instead!

Some 20 months since the release of the debut album 'From The Ashes' comes this download only EP to co-inside with their Bloodstock appearence.

'Natural Born Sinners' opens the EP with typical style and swagger that you expect from a band of this high standard.
Catchy as flu and twice as deadly with an instantly sing-a-long-able chorus of "I Take You Down" all pulled into gear with some cool Motorhead vibe!

Without a doubt one of the best songs ever 'Seriously Ill' has taken their "Blues stained punk" to a new and darker level, this is a moody, dark and sleazy homage to booze.At times its almost doomy and reminds me of a Cathedral.
Everybody will soon be screaming "Hair Of The Dog", like i said one of the best songs from the band full stop.
Its also clear that from those early days they have continued to mature both musically and lyrically and that they are continuing to push themselves forward.

Fast paced punker 'Love 4 Death' is a nod back to the 'Blood Runs Free' era and serves as a reminder that after 5 years they can still be "In your face", love the ending line i wonder if that was planned??

Finally their version of CCR's 'Bad Moon Rising', once again making a cover very much their own (Their version of Die Die My Darling was to die for), turning the upbeat original into a dark downbeat blues nightmare, stunning vocals and superb arrangement.
Brilliant slide guitarwork, driving drum beat and punchy bass, all of which make this a version that Nick cave would kill for.

Serving as a taster for the new songs for the next album it leaves you hungry and
definatly wanting more, im still hoping for the promised acoustic EP and a full UK tour.

Based in the depths of hell that is Camden, London the creature from that pit known as Generation Graveyard were formed early in 2008 by Vocalist/Dj Max (Pornscar, Muthafucker - take your pick and Ex Nothin To Lose).
With fellow musicians/Dj's Jonny (Le Shithouse!) and Phil Roadkill (Also a well know nightclub manager), guitarist Pete (Maleficient) and Spider.The band adopt a simple philosophy to their fucked up punked rock n roll : "Fuck the scene. Fuck the rules. Fuck genres. Fuck your twitter, Fuck your clique.This is music for the underdogs, the scumbags and the misunderstood.See you at the bar".

Throughout 2009 they built themselves a reputation as a very explosive live act and continue to increase their fanbase on a daily basis.

After numerous attempts to record demos, they finally found a studio strong enough to hold them and recorded three tracks at the beginning of this year.


Drums and a skuzzy riff kick off 'Poison City', great distorted vocals, nice catchy chorus of "This city is poison, this city will be my grave".

Always a live favourite and now given new life and a heavier edge, 'All Hail The Plague', Max's gruff vocal delivery over a heavy bass line leads into some great guitar work, pounding drums and awesome sing-a-long chorus, love it when Max screams "Death to your fucking age" a pure Fuck You and one worthy of Casey Chaos!

The doomy feedback intro to 'Murder Rock N Roll' soon leads to the chaotic and incendary vocal/guitar attack, perfect gang backing vocals, all driven by a solid high energy drum rhythm.
After the slow headbanging riff half way through we get a short but superb solo before returning to the song that quite simply says Generation Fucking Graveyard!!!

An all too short EP from a band who love and energy for their music just blasts through the speakers.

So here we are then the first single from the upcoming debut album "From The Ashes" and it's an absolute killer version of 'The Gits' Second Skin.

To accompany the single is their first promo video in 2 years.

Recorded in West London in January with Director Dr.Palser (My Dying Bride, Salvation & Immortal). It features Gramdrax of Ted Maul filling in for Peter Dolving of The Haunted, who duets with Morrigan on the track.

The video took me a number of watches to get into it, now thats not a bad thing, to be honest on the first watch i was'nt instantly blown away, with much of the original asylum idea being changed to this weirder and disturbing mix of madness.

It has some great graphics giving it an old fashioned quality and the miror bits are great, still not sure about the point of Gramdrax eating the chicken, but what the heck it dont matter do it??

I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the band though and the "signature" drum kit that took so long to create.

All in all its as stylish and impressive as the band themselves.

The perfect way to return to the stage covered in blood on halloween !
Its been a very busy year for the band with the recording of the debut album and Adrian's huge touring commitments with At The Gates, so this is in fact only their second gig of the year in the uk !

The evening kicks off with Sophie's fire eating and angle grinding act, some of you may remember her from Nemhains "Ana" video.Its impressive stuff i tell you !
Next up was magician Laura London who did unpleasent things to bananas, cucumbers and Amber!

Nemhain took to the stage soon after and kicked off with From The Ashes,the title track from the forthcoming album due jan/feb 09.The sabbathesque 'Clear My Eyes'once again proves to be a stand out track with much jumping around in the audience, followed up by their killer version of the misfits Die Die My Darling, the big red erupted !

New song Jane Doe #1 finally gets a proper live outing complete with Lisa's lemmy like backing vocals.

Now it wouldnt be a Nemhain gig without a hitch and todays hitch came from Lakis amp head,but this time a spare had been lined up and with the help of James (Chaosanct) the problem was rectified and it was a very loud version of the gits 'Second Skin' that we were treated too. This is the first time that the song has ever been performed live.

The set ended with Speed Queen, Nemhain may have been up against numerous other club nights and the wednesday 13 gig with many of their fans elsewhere,but tonight they won over a new audience,gained new fans and impressed the old fans with a fresh set and heavier sound.

What better way is there to celebrate 30 years in the buisness and honour the passing of former guitarist kelly Johnson than to produce your best album in nearly 20 years !Sure girlschool have always produced a high standard of recordings (A couple of blips along the way with Glitter and Toyah not withstanding) from the classic 'Demolition' album in 1980 to 'Believe' in 2004,but this album is just outstanding.

Sounding as fresh as they did when they released 'Take It All Away' in december 1978 this album exudes energy and confidence and the "Special Guests" add to the music as opposed to "Steal" it, if you get what i mean? although Iommi & Dio do their own version of I Spy.

First couple of tracks are in typical style,but 'I Spy' is the first stand out track its slow,pounding and moody with great vocals and catchy lyrics.The same song is reprised as track 13 with Dio on vocals and Iommi on guitar and i have to wonder why.

'Spend Spend Spend' is a well timed track with out current financial climate and also features guitar work from J.J French.

'Whole New World' almost raps its lyrics and features Neil Murray (Once known as king of the liggers) and Phil from Motorhead.

'Metropolis' is a great cover of Motorhead's song originally on the 'Overkill' album back in 1978, Eddie Clarke plays his guitar brilliantly for the girls.
'Zeitgeist' is another stand out "gets yer headbanging" track as is 'Dont Talk To Me' with Lemmy on vocals and bass and according to the press release a triangle !

Yep you gotta throw in a classic and they do with another version of 'Emergency' and you know what what i still love that song,though my fave of all time is still 'Dont Call It Love'.
We end with 'London' it has an old punk feel and a shout it out chorus of "London whoa oh u got everything", this also acts as a reminder that Girlschool are still in touch with their roots (Skin Flicks in 1977 anyone??) and that of course London rocks!

Go buy this album even if you are under 40 years of age,it rocks!
