Red Jester - Nasty (NEW PROMO VIDEO)

Red Jester have just released a promo video for the song 'NASTY' as featured on the front cover cd of this months Classic Rock AOR magazine.
A strong hard rocking number with some slightly rude lyrics! that even got the attention of legendary music journalist Xavier Russell who also gave them a 7/10 review for their album.

Aside from the gig advertised above they have just been announced for the all day music festival to be held at the Leopard venue in doncaster.

News from the band is that they are recording a new EP for release early next year and also plan a new promotional video to be shot on location somewhere in Yorkshire!

Travelling down from Newcastle to bring their sludge/Groove Metal sounds i was immediately struck over the head by a huge wall of sound reminescent of early Soundgarden/Down/Melvins all kept at a solid pace by some amazing drum work, man that guy totally killed that poor little mapex kit!
Great guitar work, pounding bass and a great singer who paced the stage with clear enthusiam for every second.

Hailing from London and intent on bringing the party to the venue, their classic rock style got the girls dancing, whilst the more blues influenced songs were for us blokes to nod our heads to.
Got to mention their lead guitarist, some stunning solo's in the Kossoff style, overall a great set.

RED JESTER.
First off any band who open their set with a song dedicated to my wife is gonna get the thumbs up from me, the song in question "She Devil" was the perfect start to an outstanding live performance.
The energy these guys put over is breathtaking, none of them stood still for more than a few seconds, hell even Drummer Matt kept standing up whilst retaining the beats and a huge smile!
Guitarist Dan jumped and span round, whilst bassist Darren ran up and down the stage, Singer Jim made good use of his space as well at times reminding me of Damon Albarn and Ricky Wilson.

2 new songs were performed alongside live fave's 'Dirty Lovin' and 'Nasty', listed on their set list is 'Sweet Spunk' this turns out to be a clever song amde up of White Stripes Seven Nation Army, Eurythmics Sweet Dreams and Pink Floyds Another Brick In The Wall, 3 songs that you wouldnt think go together yet their clever arrangement made one fine song.

With the crowd moving forward even more the band picked up the pace with more great songs, getting everyone involved, i didnt think the metallica/nirvana mix worked so well but everyone enjoyed it.

The stand out song tonight for me was 'The Rain' a brilliant performance for a very strong "Rock Ballad" that builds with an anthemic chorus.

Having said goodnight and thankyou the band were not allowed to leave the stage until they had played another song, they chose the hard rockin almost Motorhead like song 'Punching Bag'.

Hailing from the Midlands the four piece rock band first came together in 2010 and started to play music drawing on various influences from Classic Rock, Punk, Heavy Metal and even Britpop.

In February 2011 they released a six track demo which gained an 8/10 review on this very site!

Having spent a lot of time on the road and then heading to the studio they have now released their first album.

Kicking off with the bouncy groove-laden 'Nasty' with its punchy chorus and what sounds like a sample from an "Adult Movie" (Usually the drummer's private collection).

'She Devil' keeps the groove going with a Rob Zombie vibe, the songs structure has similarites to 'Welcome To The Jungle'.

Anthemic stop/start riff meets sleaze rock on 'Dirty Lovin' a song to make you smile;
"Going down pink or brown" now thats a lyric even King Lizard's Flash Roxx wouldnt write!!!! Oh wait are they playing snooker???

Sounding like a mid seventies pop rock song (Bay City Rollers meets The Sweet??) the heart felt 'Best Thing' has "Radio Play" written all over it.Some great guitar work and strong vocal delivery with nice backing vocals make this one pleasant on the ear.

Moody and sleazy sums up 'Sweat Box', song also showcases each band member with little bass and drum solo's thrown in with the guitar solo.

'Punching Bag' still has that Motorhead 'No Class' riff running through it, hell even that solo sounds like one of Eddie's, great track!

Time for the epic rock ballad with 'By Your Side' delivers exactly what i expected starts slow with nice acoustic and electric guitar and an emotive vocal, then as it goes along it builds up with some fine female backing vocals and a sweeping guitar solo!

Think of Oasis but more upbeat and with a decent vocalist duetting with a girl then that is what you get with 'Just Emotions'.

There is an old NWOBHM riff lurking within 'Riding The Night' but this is a much more up to date sounding song and again the female backing add's depth.

'Problem Child' returns to that sleaze rock sound and manages to name check Nikki Sixx, throw in a sample saying "we dont want to scare anybody" and police sirens.

Rain f/X and nice acoustic guitar introduce the albums final track 'The Rain' which starts slow then after a vocal breakdown kicks into a full on anthemic rocker.
This one has all the hallmarks of Alice In Chains, its an epic and quite stunning finale.

Wihtout any doubts at all i can say this is a fantastic album, full of hooks and riffs, blended with style and melody, it has the feel of a sleaze rock album at times, then a classic rock one.
The music does not match the bands image (much in the same way Akercocke in suits didnt match their Black Metal sound), its a style and sound that keeps you on your toes, never quite knowing what's coming next.

Not sure how the band will proceed from this point, i would suggest some promotional music videos for 'Best Thing' and 'The Rain' and aim for some radio play.

A band to look out for and see live!

Hailing from the Midlands the four piece rock band formed in 2010 to, in their own words, "write and perform rock songs with the balls, soul, attitude, carefreeness and fun vibe".

What has impressed me already about this band is the level of professionalisim shown in presentation of their demo with full colour info sheets and on initial listen (and remember they have not been together long) the quality of the music and production of the tracks, so that said let me hit play again.

The opening track 'Punching Bag' has a great swagger to it, it moves like Motorhead's "No Class" and has a neat riff running throughout.

The bluesy 'Resolve' comes over like a slow version of Crue's take on "Helter Skelter", it has all the hallmarks of clasic rock complete with an epic guitar solo backed with a solid drum beat!

As with the two previous songs this also has an instant familiarity as well, though this typical rock ballad 'By Your Side' does fall slightly short of its potential, a stronger vocal and more backing vocals would add more depth to it and a bit more punch from the bass and drums towards the end would give it an "Epic" quality which i think the song deserves.

You know if this track 'Riding The Night' was issued as a single during the height of the NWOBHM scene in 1979 it would be considered a "Classic", its like Starfighters meets a very early Maiden, again the riffing is first class and the vocal is very catchy.

Now 'Problem Child' would have been that imaginary singles B Side!! (Except that the lyrics mention Nikki Sixx).
The bass work comes over really well in this one and that Dan fellow just cant help laying down some major riffage.

Finally 'She Devil' kicks off like Rob Zombies "Thunderkiss 65" before moving into a rhythmic pattern that gets the head going instantly!

Massivley impressive EP, all the elements of what modern genre "Classic Rock" bands play, with a touch of NWOBHM and some of the more rock orientated bands from the britpop era.
